The Shark Glass Separator

The Shark separator allows for a controlled process in which clean glass cullets and PVB fractions can be produced according to various industrial user requirements. This is important to maintain consistency of quality as well as grain sizes of the glass cullets.

Since 2003, the Shark separator has been in continuous operation and has proven its capability to process laminate glass as well as other types of flat glass from windows.

The automobile industry, and with it the car glass manufacturers, face an industrial sized challenge in that recycling of laminate glass becomes steadily more critical in order to meet the EU's ELV directives. Similar legislation in other parts of the world are also in place or are following.

The historical solution of sending the glass to landfills has become less attractive due to the cost of disposal and the ever increasing focus to be kinder to the environment. The need to have a fresh recycling solution has never been more important.

Already a problem of significant proportion within the car industry today, observers expect the problem to increase. Within the next 20 years the global car fleet is expected to double.

Advantages

Technological breakthrough

  1. Industrial volume and capacity, approximately 18 tons of laminated glass can be separated per hour (windshields or building glass).
  2. High quality glass cullets output. Less than 1% contamination of PVB and other contaminates. Grain sizes from 0-5 mm allows for high end applications of this recycled glass.
  3. PVB fractions separated from the glass.

The PVB fractions contain less than 1% contamination from glass and other contaminates.

Industrial fit

  1. The separation technology is easy to implement, with three main pieces.
  2. The solution is scalable and profitable from signle shift low volume to multiple shifts high volume.
  3. The entire process allows for better synergies with glass manufacturers, waste management firms and recycling companies.
